I used an 'essentials' nipple cream from Boots, thinking I was saving a few pennies, and it was dreadful. It felt watery and not particularly protective, and even though I removed it before feeding, my newborn son reacted to the cream and ended up with dry, peeling skin on his chin. I mentioned it to my midwife who checked the tube and she was surprised to see alcohol listed in the ingredients. I stopped using it immediately. Complete waste of money - albeit cheap.
