I bought a cot bed for my little one, it's great quality and wasn't bank breaking expensive. When he gets bigger I can lower the bed and can eventually turn it in to a toddler bed.

I purchased the white padstow cotbed in a set along with the padstow wardrobe and chest of drawers. I am happy with the cot so far, my baby is 4months old and sleeps in it overnight now. It is very sturdy and looks nice but I will say that the quality of wood and fittings aren't the best. The only problem I might have as my son gets older and I am going to have to lower the mattress, the side of the cot does not come down to make it easier to get your child in and out but I suppose it is a safety precaution. I would not have gone for this set had it not been in the sale as I don't think it is worth it's full price value. This set comes up frequently in the sale so if you are interested in it, try and hold out for a sale event if possible.

We got given a mothercare cot by my mother in law that was only 6 years old, bearing in mind it had been used for maybe 6 months old my little brother in laws life before he had to move up to a cotbed and was stored in the attic never moved...and it broke 2 months after using it! Could have been the particular one we had and I'm glad I didn't pay but for the price definitely not worth it.
